1. Set Reminders/Plan walks
Use alarms, calendar alerts, or notifications to remind yourself to get up and move. Schedule regular walking breaks throughout the day to ensure you’re staying active.
2. Walk a Dog
If you don’t have a dog, volunteer to walk dogs at an animal shelter. Or combine your activity with social time by joining a friend in walking their dog.
3. Multitask while Walking
You can brush your teeth, talk on the phone, or listen to music or a podcast, while walking.
4. Take the stairs
Taking the stairs is one of the easiest ways to increase your daily step count. Wherever you might typically take the elevator, opt for the stairs.
5. Get off a few stops early or park far away
If you use public transportation, consider getting off a stop or two early and walking the rest of the way. If you drive, consider parking your car a bit farther away than usual to have the opportunity to get in a few extra steps.
All of these things may seem like mild changes to your life, but together they can have an impact on your health. Keeping yourself active and moving everyday is important to long lasting active lifestyles.
